Referral News!!!!

At 2:27 p.m. on November 8, 2004, Shannon of Children's Bridge called to tell us the joyous news that we had been referred a beautiful baby boy named LEE, Kyung Hoon. We will be naming him Alexander John Kyung-Hoon Reeves.

Kyung means "bright" and Hoon means "teach" so perhaps he'll be a scholar or teacher.

Alexander was born on June 11, 2004 in Seoul, Korea. He weighed 3.9 kg (8.6 lbs) at birth and was delivered at 41 weeks.

At 2 months of age, Alexander was described by the Foster Mother and Social Worker as liking to be with people. He doesn't like to be warm, smiles easily and babbles well. They said he's stubborn and impatient and likes to be with people.

At the update that was done when he was almost 5 months old, they said he weighed 8.1 kg (17.8 lbs). He smiles and babbles a lot, rolls over on his own, grabs things around him and moves around in the baby walker. He likes to watch TV and loves listening to music and having someone read him books.

At this point, we expect that he should be home sometime near the middle or end of January 2005.

The Journey Begins

We have officially started the process to adopt a baby from South Korea. We're very excited about the whole process and are thrilled to be working with some amazing people on this process.

We're working with an adoption agency in Ottawa called Children's Bridge (www.childrensbridge.com). Shannon is the coordinator of the South Korea program and so she'll be the one helping us with our paperwork and questions. Children's Bridge works with a law firm called Conlin & Payette and they facilitate the legal aspects of the adoption. Crystal is our contact with Conlin's.

Our social worker is named Marcy and she's an absolute gem. With her, we'll be doing a series of in-depth interviews over a few months so she can write up a report for the Ministry of Children and Youth Services (called a homestudy). We'll also work with Marcy once our baby is home with us so we can complete some reports for the first six months.
